Two years into a project that spanned almost 13 years to totally renovate, Kaw started at the top to make sure that the remaining 1.2 million square foot office building remained dry and the employees working without interruption. Working 18 stories in the air, Kaw completely tore off the existing roof and replaced it with a Derbigum Roofing System. The entire project won a Kansas City Business Journal Capstone Award in the "Office" category.
This project required the removal of over 60,000 square feet of Concrete Roof Tile and Low-slope roofing material. Over 56,000 square feet of AEP-Span- Span Loc standing seam metal roof system was installed over the entire complex. The remaining Low-slope roofs were reroofed using a Firestone 60mil EPDM ballasted system.
This project presented many challenges for Kaw's Architectural Sheet Metal Division. Kaw was entrusted with everything metal from the Standing Seam Metal Roofs to the Composite Panels used to outline the building's exterior, soffit panels, and the glass tower trim which greets visitors as they arrive into the circle drive serving both the Hotel and Convention Center. Other work included Column Covers and the Loading Dock Screenwall. Using a custom color of Seafoam Green Kaw utilized an AEP-Span Cap Seam standing seam metal roof system on both the Convention Center and Hotel. The trim and soffits were completed using a Citadel Envelope 2000 Composite panel.
Kaw Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. was responsible for installing over 240,000 square feet of new roof using the GAF Ruberoid System.
When Cabela's made their move to the Kansas City Area they chose the newly developed Legends at Village West to build their first store. When they chose a contractor for their Roofing & Architectural Sheet Metal needs they picked Kaw Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. who has had roots in the area since 1923. The result was a first class store providing Hunting, Fishing and Outdoor Gear. Kaw protected all of this by installing a Carlisle Ballasted EPDM roofing system on the flat roofs. The always recognizable green roof was installed using an AEP-Span Snap Seam system.
This 32 bed inpatient facility is protected using a Derbigum Modified membrane roof on the low-slope roofs. In addition Kaw roofed the steep-slope areas using Concrete Tile as manufactured and supplied by Stoneworth Building Products.
The original standing seam metal roof was not performing, as intended, on this 36,000 square foot building. Kaw Roofing & Sheet Metal was engaged to remove the existing roof and install an AEP-Span Span-Lok hp & SpanSeam metal roof system. In addition, Kaw installed new associated fascia, gutter and downspout to complete the 20 Year warranted work.
Kaw Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. was part of the renovation project of this old school which had been closed since 1932. Originally built in 1885, Kaw removed the old slate roof and replaced with new natural slate. The old bell tower, which was removed in 1886 due to fear of collapse by possible tornadoes, was reconstructed in Kentucky for this project. Kaw placed the new slate on the tower while it was still on the ground. The entire finished structure was then hoisted by crane to its present location. Kaw's Sheet Metal Dept. fabricated and installed the copper cornices and ornate ridge pieces to duplicate the schools original design.
The total renovation of this historic house, built in 1888 for Mrs. George N. Blossom, involved Kaw to coordinate with other trades in order to maintain the watertight integrity of this structure during the renovation process. Access to anyone of the three stories had to be made by penetrating the structure in order to remove and replace many of the historic features of the house. Kaw replaced the roof with natural slate and copper details maintaining the historic tradition of the structure.
This project consisted of the removal of 36,500 square feet of old tile, two layers of plywood and two layers of insulation before installation could begin. Kaw then installed the new system consisting of an AEP Span Snap Seam Metal Roof. Coordination of maintaining a water-tight system throughout the project was critical to allow ongoing use of the Pavilion for various events. A Derbigum Roof System was installed at all flat roofs surrounding the pyramid dome.
